Welcome to the 2024 Hydrant Project!

 The LaFontaine Arts Council invites the members of the community of Huntington County to participate in a year-long public art exhibit by signing up to paint a fire hydrant.  The theme this year is Mythical Beasts.  

 There is no  entry fee and anyone is welcome to participate.  Participants are welcome to use paint provided at the Huntington Arts and Entrepreneurial Center or choose to use their own paint.  Paint must be suitable for outdoor use. All participants must submit a design for approval via the online form by pressing the button below. 

 Collaborations are welcome.  Be sure to list all participants on the form if working together on a hydrant. 

 Applications due: August 20

Painting Begins: August 15

Painting Complete: Sept 1

Exhibit Opening: September 7

• The hydrants must be painted in a way that is appropriate for public display. Designs that are religious, political or sexual in nature will not be allowed. Corporate logos and advertising are also not permitted.
• Participants may begin cleaning their hydrant on August 11
• Participants may begin painting their hydrant no earlier than August 15.
• The nut on the top of the hydrant CANNOT be painted.
• Artists will paint a 2x2” black square for QR code placement in a place of their choosing on the main cylinder, or body, of the hydrant.
• Artists must clean up their work station upon completion of your work.
• LAC will assign the hydrant location once the submission form has been received.  Artists can request a specific hydrant.  The LAC will do their best to accommodate location requests. 
• Professional grade exterior paint will be available for use at the Huntington Arts and Entrepreneurial Center.  Participants can stop in during normal hours to pick up paint or use their own exterior paint. 

 The exhibit opens on September 7 from 2 to 4 pm. Visitors will pick up maps showing the locations of all the hydrants at The Huntington Arts and Entrepreneurial Center. Be sure to visit the Art Center, pick up a map, and participate in a scavenger hunt to win a prize!

Artists are invited to be in attendance at their hydrants on September 7 and are encouraged to display
and offer their art for sale during the opening.
